Beckford is considered one of the few men who’s ever been considered a supermodel, namely because his is the longest-running contract Ralph Lauren has ever doled out. With men or women.

Last week Beckford talked to Dallas Voice about his new show and about whether or not being gay is a supermodel deal-breaker:

Dallas Voice: You really impressed your gay fans’ when you did that calendar signing at a gay club in D.C.

Tyson Beckford: Oh yeah, I caught a lot of heck for that, too. But in this day and era, people are still putting that gay wall up — like gay people aren’t cool.
Well, I’m sorry to tell you: Gay people really run the entertainment business. So you’ve been watching a lot of stuff that’s been gay influenced, but you just didn’t know. You know, it’s about time. I’m straight, but I have my gay fans and I also have my straight fans, and I do not want to ever offend either one. I mean, what is fashion without a little gay in there?

Dallas Voice: You did catch a lot of hell for appearing at that gig?

Tyson Beckford: Yeah, but that was just from the straight idiots who didn’t know any better. I got a gay friend who likes to call them “stupid straight people.” And I love him for that. And I tell him, “You know what? Those stupid straight people are giving me hell again.” I don’t see what that has to do with who we are as a person.

Dallas Voice: That appearance made a big impact about how gay people perceive you. But what did you take away from the experience?

Tyson Beckford: Not to let people judge me for who I hang out with, or where I go, or what I do, or who are my friends. I’ve always grown up that way. My parents never raised me to be homophobic or anything like that. And I raise my son the same way. And I just wish everyone else would raise their kids like that, too. So that way we wouldn’t have problems, like racism and people being gay or straight. Who the hell cares? We’re humans.
It’s 2008, and you’re still worried about whether the guy next to me is gay.
Like I said, they’re just stupid straight people — ignorant straight people. So hurray to my gay fans. I love you. I love you to death. Gay people keep it real.

This is definitely my favorite gay movie–ever.  I think I wouldn’t even pigeonhole it and say it’s one of my favorite gay movies, but just one of my favorite romantic comedies.  It features an affable Alexis Arquette (when she was still a he) and a very attractive Christian Maelen as two best friends whose relationship instantly deteriorates when Alexis’ character admits he has feelings for his straight friend.  Years later Alexis marries a well known soap star (lol played by Tuc Watkins–the irony) who is a nice guy but he isn’t Brendan (his friend).  The whole gang of friends is brought back together by a wedding and that’s when Brendan shows up with a surprise that shocks everyone and leaves Alexis’ character with a difficult choice.  It’s funny, it’s sweet, it’s Four Weddings and a Funeral meets My Best Friend’s Wedding with a gay twist.

Breakfast With Scot is a movie about a suburban gay couple who ends up having to take care of a young boy whom one half of the gay couple’s brother fathered–after the boy’s mother passes away.  The brother never knew he had a son, and cannot be located so the boy goes to the next of kin.  Problem is, Scot grew up with only his mother so the boy is very feminine and flamboyant, and doesn’t realize that this is strange to other people.  One of the men is a former hockey player and now sportscaster who is very in the closet due to his job, and Scot’s “gay” antics embarrass him.  Throughout the course of the film he and his partner struggle with learning to deal with being parents for the first time as well as how to love Scot and themselves.

This great movie that dramatizes the events surrounding the Stonewall Riots (if you’re gay and don’t know what this is–WIKIPEDIA IT RIGHT NOW!!) centers around a young guy from the south (Fred Weller–cute guy from In Plain Sight) who comes to New York City and meets a drag queen played by Guillermo Diaz (played Guillermo on Weeds) who sort of introduces him to the gay nightlife of the city and helps him find acceptance and a home when he had none at all.  The entire movie leads up to the riots themselves, and the movie ends both triumphantly and tragically for many different characters.

This is the closest I’ve ever seen to a gay version of the female ensemble sisterhood movies like Steel Magnolias, Boys On The Side, Now & Then, etc.  It’s not the best film but it’s fun and romantic and shows gay men in a variety of different lights.  It’s certainly a lot less insulting than stuff like Queer As Folk or Noah’s Arc (which I admit are both two of my guilty pleasures).  It stars Dean Cain (Lois & Clark), Andrew Keegan, Zach Braff, Timothy Olymphant–among others star in this romantic comedy about friends and lovers.

For some reason this got a rap for being a gritty serious drama during the awards season but if you’ve seen the movie you know it’s actually a light-hearted (for the most part) hilarious road-trip movie about a mother connecting with a son she never knew she had, while learning to feel comfortable in her own skin.  Felicity Huffman from Desperate Housewives gives an Oscar worthy performance (still pissed Reese Witherspoon stole it from her!), and Kevin Zegers is charming and gorgeous as her son.

So, if you’ve ever heard of the play, read the play, seen the play, you know that Tony Kusher who wrote it is absolutely brilliant.  The film version which stars Justin Kirk, Mary Louise Parker, Adam Shenkman, Al Pacino, Emma Thompson, Meryl Streep, and the fabulous Jeffrey Wright as the gay nurse Belize all make this movie about a group of people affected by the AIDS crisis in the 80s worth the 6 hour watch.

How many of you knew the director of the classic film Frankenstein was gay?  Yep, he was.  And was openly gay during a time when homosexuality was incredibly taboo and always concealed.  This critically acclaimed and Oscar nominated movie stars Ian McKellen and Brendan Fraser and chronicles the final days of the genius behind the film and the very sexy man who was his muse.  May not be your thing if you’re not into art house films–but at the very least Brendan Fraser looks really good in it!

Heartbreaking film about a soldier who unexpectedly falls in love with a transgendered woman, and the fallout from their relationship.  The film is based on the story of very well known trans-woman Calpernia Addams whom you might remember from her dating show on Logo.

Does anyone know what they’re saying in the 3rd video?

Okay so, the first time I posted a bisexual clip on this site there was a huge reaction to it, both from bi guys and even some gay guys who may enjoy straight porn. Additionally, I know from my quantcast demographic figures, that A LOT of the people who view this site are women–assumedly heterosexual. So I’ve started another site that may be of interest to those who enjoyed that sort of content. Bisexual videos, straight porn with hot guys, vocal guys, where there’s ass play, the guys interact, double vaginal, etc.

I started this site because it seemed most straight porn wasn’t really straight porn, but rather, straight male porn, mostly focused on the girls and mostly focused on the straight male fantasy. The girls in the movies always interact with each other but never the guys.

So I figured why not start a site where I could post straight porn videos but with the eye of a gay man? I come across good stuff fairly often, and it seems a waste not to share it, but I didn’t want to clog up Fresh Hotness with too many straight clips so here is its sister site Straight Hotness.

Be nice, I just started it, so it’s still a baby. I’m lucky I didn’t have thousands of people with their eyes on Fresh Hotness when it first began, ’cause it was a mess. :p Hope it doesn’t flop.
