Homophobic NFL Star Larry Johnson Owned

larry-johnson-julissa

I don’t know if any of you heard about this, but I had to post it ’cause I found it both poignant and hilarious, especially coming from a straight guy.  Some background:

Kansas City Chiefs Larry Johnson has been suspended by his team after conducting a series of unnecessary remarks aimed at head coach Todd Haley after the team lost 37-7 against the San Diego Chargers on Sunday, and one of his Twitter followers.

The Twitter follower reffered to an incident where Johnson spat at a women in a nightclub, to which then Johnson commented on the followers profile photo calling it a “fag pic” and “ Christopher Street boy” which is a reference to a Pride march route in New York.

(via Pink News)

Then Jay Smooth (founder of longest running hip-hop radio station and most known for hip-hop blog Ill Doctrine) laid his ass the hell OUT.

  1. Owned. What an immature man, how stupid can you be to post derogatory comments on a your FANS twitter page. He got what was coming. Also, lol @ “east coast cats”.

  2. wow.. that was sweet.. love it. One more reason I hate sports (because of the bullshit it indoctrinates and purveys in society).

I find this remark interesting b/c, as an avid sports fan, I’m not too sure what you mean when u talk about bullshit indoctrination taking place in sports. Interestingly enough, sports as a whole is not the homophobic institution it was once thought to be. When John Amaechi (basketball player) came out a couple years ago and Tim Hardaway (retired at the time) made those homophobic statements about it, a lot of people still involved in the NBA came out against those statements and that mindset. While professional sports is still lacking a strong openly gay athlete, I think that the evidence points much more towards possible acceptance than exclusion. Of course you’re more than entitled to your opinion lol.

    THIS indoctrination: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=__LxXMnZD9E

John Amaechi was the FIRST after all this time.. and yes they all came out and supported him etc.. AFTER the fact. Because they knew it was good PR. Guys like this who are this homophobic are very very common in mainstream sports, you can ask Amaechi that if you dont believe me. Now maybe the above clip isnt the best example but it helps.

I already made my remark to that video lol. I don’t think its fair to blame sports as a whole for the misguided opinions of a few (very ignorant) sports fans. In my experiences with sports and sports fans, the exact opposite is true. I think it’s easy to find these kinds of examples b/c they’re the ones people want to focus on, but the TRUE sports fans out there, most of them don’t care. I’d say go back to the post about the social experiment with the gay couple in the *Sports Bar* for evidence of the way the majority of sports fans feel on this subject. The guy in the video is an idiot, and nothing he said shows me he’s a sport fan or an athlete. He seems to be nothing more than a homophobe looking to stand up for another person’s homophobic comments. I don’t think that everyone should love sports, it’s no more for everyone than pop music is, but it seems to me that your reasoning for hating sports isn’t really based on the reality of the culture but more on a skewed perception. (no offense meant at all, it’s just my observation.) and to call the support other players threw behind Amaechi a PR stunt is highly unfair of you. They had no choice but to do it AFTER he came out b/c most of them didn’t know he was gay BEFORE he came out. It’s the same as certain Actors being worried about coming out affecting their careers, but no one’s saying Hollywood is indoctrinating homophobia…

  3. FANTASTIC comment by Jay Smoooth and right on target with regard to what Stonewall was all about….strength and determination and not at all about weakness. It was the catalyst for our being US. Smooth’s “smack down” of Larry Johnson was GREAT. Who the Hell would make such a negative commentary on Twitter? He may handle the ball in the game but truly dropped the ball withhis comment!

  4. wow, poetic, free flowing, and intelligent remarks. Beautiful response to the ignorance of Larry Johnson. And I must say, I love it when gay people stand up for our own, but I think I love it even more to see straight people standing up for us too!

Exactly what I was thinking. Not only was this incredibly intelligent, but it was delivered beautifully in a way that actually did feel like poetry. I felt like I was watching an extra good episode of Def Poetry Jam! Way to go!

ok you see this is what happens when special needs individuals are given cameras and allowed to have youtube accounts. lol sorry that was inappropriate, but seriously. Am I the only one who thinks that this response video is perfect evidence for there being some level of control over who gets to exercise their free speech rights?

  6. I feel so proud to be gay right now! I don’t know who that Larry guys is but he doesn’t seem worth knowing!

Here in Australia there is a campaign called ‘This is Oz’, which is all about saying no to homophobia, which is supported by the Wallabies, which is the Australian National Rugby Union team.

  7. Free Speech is for all and guarenteed by the First Amendant but responsible commentary is another subject. I had been in sports and in the USMC where in both, the PR people insist on political correctness. BUT….and this is a big BUT…in reality the homophobia in both sports and the military will blow you away(and not blow in the good way). You have to look at how this macho mentality is still being upheld in the college ranks as well as the highschool arena. If all was well in the sports sector, with few exceptions, more people would be comfotable to “come out” of the closet. There is a MAJOR stigma attached to being gay and you would be ruined in the sports world for a “I am gay” declaration. Homophobia is alive and kicking in sports and the military I was part of both and have relaible connections in both areas.
It is sad but FREESOM does not move at a fast pace, jsut ask and African American and Women who still experience the “glass Ceiling” on a regualr basis.
Adrian, you are not right in limiting FREE SPEECH, no matter what the content, speech is and should always be guarenteed to be FREE. What did Patrick Henry say?: I may agree with what you say, but will defend with my life your right to say it” (In the Virginia House of Burgess, their state governing body)

heaven forbid we learn to take a joke. I wouldn’t dream of taking away the freedom of speech in such a fashion. It was a hyperbolic statement meant to make a point about the stupidity, or at least the ignorance, of that individuals statements. Thus we see the death of sarcasm obviously.

  13. Once again Adrian…you miss the mark, with all due respect. To say that Hollywood does not induce homophobia is so OFF the mark. I was a VP of marketing for one of the big film companies for 23 years and boy they sure due subscribe to homophobia. Example: “Brokeback Mountain was only allowed to be filmed if and only if one of the main love interests was killed in a violent manner at the end. The movie was then OK for the general striaght audience. To me it was fraud, but the SUITS do not really like the gay scenerio unless the actors in a gay scene or film appear to be ridiculous or inane. There is an unwritten code and it still sticks big time in the motion picture industry.
So to state andmaintain that homophobia is not an issue in Hollywood is to stick your head in a barrel of celuloid.
To surmise, the sports INDUSTRY is even more controlled and homophobia…again and again, why aren’t more atletics coming out? Answer: their careers would be OVER. Have you ever been in a locker room, I did when I played in college and trust me, there is not a love fest for gay men.
