Lost $1 Million Because of a Water Slide
Anyone here watch the Amazing Race? I’ve been following it this season mainly ’cause of the gay brothers Sam & Dan, and I was soooo glad when Lance and Keri left last week. I also kind of have a crush on Miss USA Erica’s husband Brian, but that’s another story.
But I could not BELIEVE that Mika threw away $1 milion because the bitch did not want to go down a simple water slide WITH FLOATIES!!! If I were her husband I would’ve been crying in frustration.

It’s a recreational waterslide. You won’t die from it, it’s designed to be safe and fun for families. For goodness sakes, as the other anon said, she wasn’t forced to jump off a cliff. It’s a competition, she should’ve sucked it up and went down

Well, boys and girls can anybody say break-up. We witnessed the end of Canaan and Mika’s relationship. If they stay together it will be a miracle, and a problem in their relationship from now on. Canaan needs to cut Mika loose and go their separate ways!

believe coming form a person whos afraid of heighs i was gonna go into a waterslide once . it was so freakig scary to me i saw it was a no ending waterslide and didnt dare to go , of course that if 1 million is at stake well i would be really stupid if i didnt

i wonder… could it possibly those two probably were secretly paid off by the show makers to do this whole ordeal and lose JUST so there would be more interesting material than a bunch of people effortlessly jumping down a SIMPLE WATERSLIDE?! and not only does this kind of thing just take up time in the show as filler, but it increase ratings by getting people to buzz about it everywhere (as evident in this webpage) NOBODY would throw away a million JUST over a waterslide, unless they were already guaranteed another sum… yeah IM acrophobic, but a waterslide?? srsly…

Well it’s not as if they were guaranteed $1 million if they went down the slide. It just meant they wouldn’t get eliminated this leg of the race. There’s still like 4 more to go before they would actually win.

exactly, so imagine what would happen if they were offered by the producers to lose the game like this (and boost ratings in the process) and instead be guaranteed something like a 1/4 million and a gag order, rather than continue on in a stupid reality show that they probably wouldnt win anyway…

I don’t disagree w/ the possibility that they were paid off by producers to keep the show interesting. I’ve always been of the opinion that there’s less “reality” and more “tv” in reality tv, but your statement that “NOBODY” would throw away a million “JUST” over a waterslide is not accurate. You can’t speak for everyone, only yourself. I agree that a vast majority of people would’ve just done it, but there are always exceptions. That being said, seriously, suck it up and go! It only lasts for a few seconds then your back on the ground and everyone’s happy.

This made me laugh so hard! Mika looked like a 2 year-old throwing a tantrum in her floaties! But I still love this show.
The Amazing Race is a great show…I have been watching the show since it came on the air. Freak outs like Mika’s happen all the time on this show; it’s great! I mean, last year, a team literally lost the million dollars because one of them had to pee and couldn’t hold it! I would totally piss myself on national TV for 1 million dollars!
I would also assume, much like Survivor, everyone gets paid something on the show just for being chosen. For example, on Survivor, if you are eliminated first you get paid $1000 and so on up the ladder to the point where first place gets $1 million and second place gets $100,000 (or something like that). So, yeah, Mika and Canaan were getting paid but not to boost ratings.
Finally, Mika and Canaan are devout Christians…and VIRGINS. So of course he will forgive her just to get in her panties. Sigh.

Y’all are just not getting it. Mika has a deep-seated and crippling fear of both heights and water. To paraphrase Television Without Pity, her lizard brain was in control. On top of that slide the million dollars was not in any way a factor. Somewhere in her mind she was thinking that if she went down that slide she was going to die. Is that rational? Of course not (although people have certainly died on amusement park rides) but we aren’t talking about rationality here. We’re talking about phobias. The douchebag here is Canaan who, when faced with a partner who was screaming and crying in fear, tried to PHYSICALLY THROW HER DOWN THE SLIDE, not once but TWICE. Also according to TWoP, they were at the top of that slide for 45 minutes and while he has claimed in interviews he was calm and patient with her for most of that, does anyone believe that he was really being all that calm and patient?
But let’s be real. Mika didn’t cost them the million dollars. There was no way that they were going to make the final three, much less win the whole thing. Look where they finished in each leg. 10th, 8th, 7th, 7th, 7th and 7th. Plus, Canaan had done 5 Roadblocks already and assuming the rule about each team member having to do half the Roadblocks is still in place, Mika would have had to do 5 of the remaining six and how much will you bet me that one of them would have been skydiving or bungee jumping? So yeah, she blew this task HUGE and no one’s denying it, but she’s not responsible for costing them the big payday.
Of course she probably should not have gone on TAR with these fears because there has yet to be a season in which there was not a challenge involving heights, water or both…

If you want an example of a REALLY selfish girlfriend then remember Nicole from season 5. She and Brandon were way behind with five teams left and they went for the Fast Forward in India, which was to shave their heads. Which she refused to do. Not because she was terrified beyond belief at the thought of having a shaven head or because she was convinced in some part of her mind that if she shaved her head she would die, but because she was a “model” and thought that by shaving off her long straight rather mousy and altogether not-at-all-anything-other-than-ordinary hair she might hurt her career. The only thing that saved her sorry selfish ass was that the leg was non-elimination. Nicole’s a racer who deserves the name-calling and derision, not Mika. Well, Mika doesn’t deserve it for this specifically, anyway.
