Anyone Watch Bravo’s Flipping Out?

I’ve been getting really into it lately and I was shocked the other week when Jeff discovered his longtime business partner (and former boyfriend) Ryan had been intentionally deceiving potential clients to steal business from him. He confronted him about it on the most recent episode.

Cannot feel sorry for Jeff. He’s the kind of toxic fag who gives gay men a bad name.
You reap what you sow, Jeff.

I don’t get how Jeff gives gay men a bad name. He may have a prickly personality when it comes to people doing their jobs properly but he’s a good businessman and a talented designer. Plenty of straight male businessmen are just like him or worse and no one connects their behavior to their sexuality.

Having watched ‘Flipping Out’ for 2 years already, I had formed the opinion that Jeff Lewis was a talented douche-bag; I now see that, yes, he may be a bit high strung, but he is very honest and tries NOT to have hidden agendas…..Ryan had me sooooooo fooled into thinking that ‘butter wouldn’t melt in his mouth’: I see now that he is much more the cold-hearted and scheming bitch-fag…….THAT is the type of gay man who gives gays a bad rep!!!!!!!!!

Completely agree, T-artie. Ryan has always had this holier than thou attitude toward Jeff and it’s just so funny to see him get caught red-handed.

I so agree with Rick and solidly disagree with jamie. Jeff is a toxic person whether gay or straight but sine he is gay, he really paints us into that bitchy stereotype. And…it adds fuel to the fire that a gay men are cruel, selfish and mean spirited. Jeff is the kind of person that I avoid. Life is much to short to get mixed up with a person who can’t define NICE. Yes, business can be rough but you as a person can define just how you are going to handle situations. If you can only get success via a mean spirited demeanor, then it is time you re-evaluste what you are all about. I don’t want to be around or deal in business with those who get off on being negative. I’m here to enjoy every great moment that is offered to me. Jeff adds nothing to a relationship because of the underlying negativism. He really needs some major soul searching as to what he has to offer to those around him and to himself.
His former partner is dishonest and not a great guy with whom to align. His actions were beyond unethical and totally wrong.

But I don’t agree that Jeff is cruel at all. As he stated in this clip, he is a generous person who has brought many people up with him on the ladder to success. And he’s talked about how many of the times when he gets angry at people for messing up the work he’s paying them to do, it’s because he’s under a lot of pressure to make sure the dozens of his employees who don’t have the money he has–are able to pay their rent and feed their children. Is he the nicest person? No, he has a lot of emotional unavailability issues that stem from his childhood and that’s obvious when he deals with his father and brother who he isn’t very close to. But to call him toxic is incredibly short-sighted and I say, it’s unfair to link his behavior to his sexual orientation as someone said already.

I totally agree with Jenny.
I never bought for a moment that Ryan is all sweetness and light, so I wasn’t surprised that he has a dark side.

Greg you are incorrect……RYAN DOES NOT HAVE A DARK SIDE!
I AM A CLIENT OF RYAN’S AND HE WOULD “NEVER” STEAL BUSINESS FROM JEFF. RYAN HAS MORALS AND CONDUCTS BUSINESS PROFESSIONALLY.
JEFF YOU ARE WRONG AND SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF WHAT YOU HAVE SAID ABOUT RYAN.

Being a client of Ryan’s doesn’t somehow give you insight into what he may or may not be doing.

For the first time I agree with Jenny, being a client of Ryan gives you little insight into how Ryan acts in the other arenas of his professional life. Of course to a client, where he gets money, he is going to appear circumspect. You do not hide from yur business partner how you are marketing the product as Ryan did in the L. A. disign Magazine…that was proff that he was marketing Ryan as compared to their joint venture.

The point is you reap what you sow. Ryan would not have acted the way he did if Jeff hadn’t been such a totally selfish, cold, inhumane uoptight s.o.b. for years to every unfortunate individual to cross his path.
Why show concern for Jeff when Jeff never shows concern for others?
And, of course, it matters if someone is a client of Ryan and Jeff’s matters. It means that that person knows them personally. Unlike anyone else here.

“Ryan would not have acted the way he did if Jeff hadn’t been such a totally selfish, cold, inhumane uoptight s.o.b. for years to every unfortunate individual to cross his path.”
Uh, what? You’re acting as if Ryan did what he did out of retaliation toward Jeff, which makes no sense–1. because he didn’t even really admit to doing anything and 2. because they’re not enemies, they’re friends.
“And, of course, it matters if someone is a client of Ryan and Jeff’s matters. It means that that person knows them personally. Unlike anyone else here.”
Being someone’s client is not knowing them personally. Knowing someone in the context of doing business does not mean you know what kind of person they are on their own time. And even if someone did know him personally, it doesn’t mean he’s incapable of doing something bad. There’s murderers, rapists, and child molesters out there–whom–before being caught–had plenty of people who would say they never thought these people were capable of doing any of those things either.
