11 Year Old Boy Kills Himself After Gay Bullying

I know this is a huge departure from the things I normally post, but I look at that boy’s picture and I’m disturbed by this whole tragedy. Whether he was actually gay or not, it’s so sad that children are being taunted to the point of wanting to be dead because of homophobia in schools. :( A life lost.

  1. This is horrible, You hear this with 16-19 years old in high schools, but not 11 years old, so young and too be that depressed and to see other students be so monstrous is just disgraceful and horrifying.

  2. This was a great post for you to put on. The world needs to know how kids are being tormented in school and end up killing themselves. My heart goes out to his mother. Thanks again for concern.

  3. This is terribly saddening. Something needs to be done to reduce the LGBT harassment in schools. The “That’s so gay” PSA was a step in the right direction, but there needs to be more. I’m finishing my senior year of high school right now and I’ve seen this happen to so many students. Thankfully I never was driven to this point though, but we’ve all been close I’m sure.

This is unacceptable, my heart goes out to everyone this death has affected.

  4. Itis up to us who might be stronger and more grounded to raise the consiousness. If we don’t, when ever we have the chance….if we don’t we enable straight society to continue with their misplaced attitudes and actions.

  5. Agree with all of you. What great responses…you guys are awsome. I’m only in my first year of university and not out at all, although I will be soon. It’s crazy how kids in school can be…I know i’ve had those days where people make fun of you and it sucks ass…but you can’t really do anything about it. I think we’re headed in the right direction…just not moving fast enough. I still can;t believe that more and more kids are starting to come out at such a young age.

  8. This is truly horrible. I really feel for the boy and his family I know what it was like. I was bullied since I was 9 years old all through school. I thought of suicide many many times.

  9. my prayers go to that little boy and his family. So many schools need to open their eyes and see what actually goes on with some kids. Im 26 now but when i was in school if you weren’t a jock or had the last name that linked you to a family fortune..you were nothing. Most of my teachers were very homophobic and if someone reported gay slurs..they laughed or brushed it off. i endured a full year of bullying physical and verbal just because i was the gay guy that had enough balls to come out. The funny part is. i am not feminent and i never had “gay characteristics” but just because i said i was… i lost dozens of friends and my life was threatened many times. suicide was an option for me many times but i got strong and fought back…i just wish this poor little boy had the strength also…

  11. I’m sorry but in my opinion society says they are sorry and apologize to the parents for their loss, but these schools will never know their pain. Nor will will they ever be as proactive about non-sexual discrimination as they were with racial discrimination. They feel that it would set a wheel in motion that would force America to be okay with homosexuals, and I don’t think we homosexuals will ever truly be accepted as much as races are now.

  12. Of course they will always try to bully all of us whenever WE ALLOW them to do so. Years ago a group called ACT UP did exactly that…got into the faces of America…and it worked. It is a war and we are on the battle front. If we don’t ACT UP on each and every infringement, attitude or action of straight men and women, then we deserve to remain in the closet. We have only once life and it isn’t all that lond, so let’s make the most of it so that young kids will be able to have a fightening chance.

  13. i wonder if any schools have been successful in reducing bullying? if so, did they set new rules or did they do something deeper? ok, so i’m still enraged by this tragedy. it speaks so loundly to me because the kid was a person of color. to see black men in their full expression, feelings and all, or men for that matter is still rare. i’m sending loads of healing to the family and strength to all seeking understanding and self-acceptance. the time is near when the true beauty and power of the human spirit will manifest for all to see.

  14. I’m so sorry he couldn’t stand through the pain and come out on top. This is a very sensitive time for everyone during these schooling years, but to put up with this is alot.

Everyone comes to a time in their life when they think about suicide. But it breaks my heart that this little boy was soo young. He didn’t even have a sexual identity.
