I don’t agree with everyone saying they’re “taking away” rights. Gay people have the same right as anybody else – they can marry a woman if they choose. Obviously, I am a gay man but we should realize we technically have the same rights as everybody else. Prop 8 is more like changing a definition of marriage, and if most people don’t want that, I can live with it.
The problem is the religious association to the legal rights heterosexual couples attain when getting married. Every couple, hetero, or homosexual, should receive the same rights under the law, because our constitution states that our government is to strive to allow every citizen equal rights and opportunities. If religious organizations don’t want to recognize them, fine, if they don’t want to call it marriage, fine, but it is a fact that it is unconstitutional to deny anyone equal rights because of the way they live their life when it does no harm to anyone else.
BRAVO John!! The ability for us (gays) to join in a civil union is now becoming legal, and let’s call it that, a civil union. We are not straight, so let’s stop trying to equate our lives and our functions with those of heteros. We ARE different, we can not deny it. So stop trying to see ourselves reflected in a straight mirror. (I am really getting sick of whacked-out gay activists trying to change everything to their way of thinking…and the activist circuit judges too.)
Gay activists beg the opponents to have an open mind, yet they do not have an open mind themselves. Straight people just do not understand what it is like to be gay. Similarly, gay people do not understand what it is like to be straight. This does not make anybody immoral, it is just a fact of life. There are more straights than gays. If they feel uncomfortable chaning the definition of marriage, so be it. BOTH sides need to show compassion on this issue.
sorry but she really didn’t shut down Elizabeth. This is a good example though of how people pf opposite points of view can talk in a civil manner.

John, you are an idiot. Think of it this way. They can get married to the people they are attracted to. We can’t. That sound equal?
